This is Fire Prevention Week across the province, with the focus once again on home safety, the need to have a home escape plan and making sure that your personal safety items such as fire and smoke detectors are in good working order.

As the week progresses, residents in the northwest will be hearing from the members of the Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue Department and those of the Port Edward Volunteer Fire/Rescue Department as they both provide helpful safety hints and share notes with those living in their communities.

Meanwhile, North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice has also been helping spread the word, providing a link to the provincial website, which has more information for those looking to learn more about fire safety in BC.

The City of Prince Rupert has also provided a short video on home safety, explaining that “a first step to fire safety is having a fire safety plan.”
